The seventeen year old Italian talent David Tonizza , promoted in the Ferrari Driver Academy following the Pro Draft event of last July, it is currently in first place in the drivers' classification of the Formula 1 eSport championship after winning the two inaugural races of the season. Tonizza won the races in Bahrain and China and finished third on the Baku circuit in Azerbaijan in a race won by the nineteen year old Danish Frederik Rasmussen of Red Bull. Now he leads the drivers' championship with 65 points, followed by Rasmussen himself (43) and by Marcel Kiefer of the Racing Point team (31).
The event took place at the Gfinity Esports arena in London and saw the protagonists 10 Formula 1 championship team, with Ferrari making its debut after defecting the first two editions of the F1 Esports Pro Series. Obviously we play with F1 2019 , the game of Codemasters which boasts the official license of Formula 1.
In the first race Tonizza had contact with Daniel Bereznay , who drives an Alfa Romeo car. Bereznay came along turn 4 and hit Ferrari, triggering an accident that involved several cars with worse consequences for Red Bull's Rasmussen and for Bereznay himself: in fact, neither of them finished the points race
Tonizza instead emerged unscathed from the contact and won the race in front of the former Formula Renault driver Eurocup Jarno Opmeer , who drives a Renault, ea Salih Saltunc of the Alfa Romeo. Salih Saltunc's second Alfa Romeo completed the podium ahead of Racing Point's Marcel Kiefer and defended himself from the winner of the two F1 Esports Pro Series events held so far, the British Brendon Leigh , which rose to fifth place from tenth position on the grid.
Tonizza also won the second of three races held last night, on the Chinese circuit. The race was decided on the final straight, when the Italian driver preceded Rasmussen by only 516 thousandths of a second, with Kiefer still third. In the first part of the race the challenge between Bereznay and Tonizza, who had already started the first race, was repeated. Also in this case Bereznay had to face some negative vicissitudes: in fact, starting from pole position alongside his team-mate Saltunc, he witnessed the breaking of the brake pedal of his position.
The final race of the day, in Baku, Azerbaijan, was dominated by Rasmussen. In second place was placed Tino Naukkarinen of Williams, who took the place of Isaac Price , the pilot who had occupied that seat in the first two races. Tonizza completed the podium, which allowed him to close the first round of the championship with an advantage of 22 points towards Rasmussen
Leigh was downgraded to eleventh place in China after receiving a penalty due to contact with the sim racing veteran Bono Huis (McLaren). In Baku, however, he was able to move up from ninth to fourth. His team-mate Patryk Krutyj , on his return to the F1 eSport championship, encountered many more difficulties, with only one points finish (eighth) in the Chinese GP.
The event was attended by other Italian drivers Daniele Haddad (Racing Point), Amos Laurito (Ferrari ) and Enzo Bonito (McLaren).
Ferrari is therefore in command of both the drivers 'and constructors' championships, and will face from a favorable position the next event of the series scheduled for October 2.
