Playing League of Legends anywhere you want could be good
According to a report from Reuters, Riot Games and Tencent are working on a mobile version of League of Legends.
Reuters’ sources say that the game has been in the works for over a year. Another said it won’t be launched in 2019, nor did they give any more details about the game.
Most Western players like playing League on their PCs, but players in the East lean more towards mobile gaming. A version of League of Legends on mobile would be targeted at those players, with the aim of expanding Riot’s player base and adding a new stream of revenue to the game.
Tencent has experience with mobile MOBAs, thanks to their work on Honour of Kings — which was reportedly made after Riot declined the opportunity to work on a mobile version of League of Legends. The Western adaption, Arena of Valor, failed to catch on and achieve the same level of success. However, the UI and gameplay were considered to capture the essence of a MOBA, with an esports scene even briefly developing around the title.
That alone gives us hope for a pretty good mobile version of League of Legends, but we can’t help but wonder what it would be like. Are there going to be daily log-in bonuses that’ll eventually add up into free skins? Are the accounts on PC and mobile linked? If so, will players’ ranks be separate since playing on a phone is pretty different?
